“As he says, “Creativity needs the support of knowledge to be able to perform at its best.”Vignelli did most of his work in the pre-Internet era, when graphic design meant ink on paper, so some of the information is not so relevant to our online environment, but the principles still stand” (http://ds106.jenpolack.com/week-2its-all-by-design/).
Massimo Vignelli definitely knows a lot about design after looking over his 49 page booklet. His main topics he discussed were the intangibles and tangibles of design. He goes into detail about what each topic has to offer and describes how they can be used. On page 22 Vignelli states, “Design is a discipline, a creative process with its own rules, controlling the consistency of its output toward its objective in the most direct and expressive way” (http://www.vignelli.com/canon.pdf). He says that you must learn how to utilize your own design type in a way that makes since and makes it your own. People use design everyday in all sorts of circumstances. One trick for design that Vignelli writes about on page 28 is: “We are for a Design that lasts, that responds to people’s needs and to people’s wants. We are for a Design that is committed to a society that demands long lasting values” (http://www.vignelli.com/canon.pdf). Our goal as designers is to create a design that will make a lasting impression and will impact people. A design makes a statement and displays meaning. Using design techniques, designers can better communicate their message and get people’s attention.
